The FACE TO FACE mission of reconstructive facial surgeons took place in the city of Lviv from May 10 to 18. They managed to operate on 25 patients with complex head and neck injuries, most of whom were representatives of the military and several civilian patients injured as a result of hostilities of the war.

Every day before the start of the surgeries, the doctors conducted round examinations of the patients who had already undergone surgery together with their Ukrainian colleagues. At the end of the operating week, a final round, with summing up and organizational meetings was held with gratitude from the hospital that hosted the mission and expressions of wishes for further cooperation.

- Closing the defect after osteoplastic trepanation with a porous polyethylene implant - 1
- Reconstruction of the frontal bone defect using PSI - 1
- Reconstruction of the frontal bone defect using titanium mesh - 1
- Installation of a gold weight on the upper eyelid - 1
- Reconstruction of the eyelid using a local skin flap - 2
- Revision of scars - 5
- Removal of metal fragments from shells from facial tissues - 2
- Rhinoplasty - 3
- Repositioning of tissues in the area of the bridge of the nose - 1
- Extra-auricular skin graft for eyelid reconstruction - 3
- Eyelid reconstruction using skin graft from the buttock area + orbital volume restoration using fat graft from the buttock area - 1
- Pedicle flap from pericranium for PSI coverage - 2
- Canthoplasty - 6
- Installation of a silicone sling for upper eyelid support - 1
- Free flap from the anterolateral thigh for soft tissue reconstruction of the zygomatic region - 1

After the mission was completed, teams hold online meetings to assess interim results and discuss the future plans. This way, the approach to patient management is comprehensive and includes not only surgical intervention, but also subsequent patient monitoring.

In summary, each visit of American reconstructive surgeons to Ukraine is the result of the tireless and hard work of both American and Ukrainian colleagues - doctors, nurses, volunteers. This is a very important important project that we hope to continue and thank everyone who was involved in organizing the fifth mission Face to Face!
