In November 2023, the third Face to Face mission was successfully completed.

The American Academy of Facial Reconstructive Surgeons of America (AAFPRS), Razom for Ukraine, INgenius, and Unbroken conducted a surgical mission where military and war victims underwent free plastic surgeries. The mission took place based on the First Medical Association of Lviv.

Preparation for the mission lasted 3 months. We received about 100 applications. American surgeons together with Ukrainian doctors selected 50 patients for operations and consultations. Together with the company Materialise, 25 patients were considered for the placement of personalised 3D implants for the restoration of facial bones.

The duration of the mission was one week. Every day, a team of surgeons and nurses worked for 15 hours. On the first day, 50 patients were consulted. The team consists of 10 surgeons and 8 nurses. Mission surgeons are otolaryngologists specialising in facial plastic surgery, ophthalmologists, and nurses.

The total number of operated patients is 32. Among them, 8 free flaps – bone transplant operations from arms and legs to restore the lower or upper jaws. About 11 patients were given 3D implants, and the total number of placed implants is -22.

Over three Face to Face missions, 100 patients have been operated on so far. Among them are 14 bone transplants from the leg to restore the jaw.

Many thanks to Ukrainian surgeons, nurses, the Unbroken team and the administration of the First Medical Association of Lviv for accepting the mission!
